Stationary Musts

July 20, 2009

I read this article on the Knot today about the 3 types of stationary that you must have.

They are:

  1. Wedding invitations
  2. Escort Cards
  3. Thank you Cards

I wholeheartedly agree with 1 and 3′ some people love to keep invitations as a mementos and thank you cards are required (I can still remember who hasn’t given me thank you cards from weddings I attended).

But escort/place cards?

We’re actually doing open seating during the reception. Our restaurant has several groups of beautiful booths and a lovely bar room and we really wanted to encourage movement. We thought it would be nice for people to sit wherever they want.

So my secondary list of wedding stationary in order of priority is:

  1. Programs – it’s a nice way to lay out a timeline and call out the wedding party or send a quick note to guests
  2. Menu cards – nice, but an individual menu card isn’t requisite if the food is pretty apparent
  3. Save the Dates (STD) – I’ve gotten and have sent e-mail STDs (supplementing with calls) – even if it’s a magnet on my fridge, I may have forgotten it

What do you think? What are some stationary items that are really just optional?

little luxury list

I think save the dates are definitely optional. We decided to do them, cause we have a lot of out-of-town guests but I don’t think they are necessary .. but I loved making ours 🙂

since our wedding is sorta not-the-usual, we had to nix alot of the stationary stuff. it helped with the finances, but i was disappointed we didn’t get to plan all of the different pretty details! escort cards and table numbers, maps, rehearsal dinner invites, reception cards, menus, etc etc.
