Dreaming/Decor Thoughts: Murals

July 22, 2010

Why is it that you want what you can’t have?  As I’ve mentioned before, I can’t paint or do anything to my apartment’s walls.

But if I had full power over my home decor,  a painted mural would be on my list of things to include.

This dining room in Paris evokes renaissance images.  What’s cooler is that the family and their pets are even painted in!

The motifs on the wall and ceiling remind me of faux molding and lend such dimension to the room (they were inspired by the motifs in Istanbul’s Topkapi palace – CHIC!).

These subtle palm details show that a mural doesn’t have to cover an entire wall but can really accent and contribute to the feel of the room.

I love the natural feel of this room and how it is reinforced by the tree-trunk bench.  Hmm I think I could even do it myself (or get my more artistic mom or a friend to help).

All pictures from Elle Decor.

Would you have a mural in your home?  What would it show?

how hells to the yea i would have a mural – i dunno exactly WHAT i would have, but it would probably be LOUD .. i’m a vote for murals!

ps – my Dad has always taught me, it’s good to WANT and DREAM for things – and not have EVERYTHING you ever wanted, b/c then if you do, you will have nothing to live for :o)

I love the last mural of the birch tree! Reminds me of my grandparents’ former house in the woods, and how calm and happy I always felt when I visited there. I am with you on the apartment-renting and wishing I could make our space more of our own. Wall decals are a great alternative in the meantime 🙂

We actually thought of having a mural for the one empty walls in our garage. Not sure what we’ll put yet, maybe something Kandinsky-like! Although for sure, we will downgrade it to a canvas, it’s easier that way! =)

    If I had the skillz-YES!
Those green curtains are gorgeous in the third photo. I’m a fan of the woods even though I live near the beach, so I’d probably want something green and vibrant like a Rousseau painting.

I would definitely consider it. Love the look in other peoples places. I’d just have to be sure that I wouldn’t get sick of it in my own place 🙂

i don’t think i could do a mural. too many flashbacks to the bad murals of the 70’s. but then again i felt that way about wallpaper ever since i was a kid, and i am SLOWLy coming around to the idea of wallpaper. slowly. LOL!

these are nice pictures. I love the mural. and I’ve always wanted a “swing couch” in my living room, though inpractical but they’re so elegant!

I can’t wait until we have our own place so we can hang things up and wall paper the heck out of everything!

Murals are interesting I agree, though they rather permanent. I prefer to feature a sleek panoramic photography instead, which incidentally, also lends a contemporary touch to the decor.
