Photo Love {Inspiration}: Being Bored and Being Fabulous

August 23, 2010
Boredom is just the reverse side of fascination: both depend on being outside rather than inside a situation, and one leads to the other.
Arthur Schopenhauer

Faye Dunaway the day after winning her Oscar from here

Perhaps you’ve accomplished a dream, are a great success, and don’t know what to do next (if only!)  I’m certainly the reverse – constantly looking for the fascination and motivation to break up my routine.  I feel like I’m in a little rut (not as glamourous as the one above), but I keep on going.   Like Ms. Dunaway, I still try to dress chicly because it puts me in a better frame of mind.  At least I look fabulous while I keep searching for inspiration and something new.
Eventually I know the situation will also change and I will feel fabulous and be fascinated as well.
What do you do to get out of a rut?
Have a lovely week!

Oh man, I could have used some advice on this subject yesterday. I spent almost the entire day whining about how bored I was. I never did find an anecdote to it!

Sorry you are feeling this way. Boring as it sounds, you just have to forge ahead and keep moving toward your goal!

i usually write it out – usually always helps – and “fake it till you make it” = best advice ever – it works!

I know what you mean…keep chugging along fabulously and something new will come 🙂 Your blog is too cute! Found you through Its Simple Love.

I just have to ‘sweet-talk’ myself out of it. I have not found a better solution yet!

Love that image! Mixing up my routine is the best way for me to get out of a rut – having something new to plan, or a new project in the works is great, too. Kudos to you for dressing the part – fashion is a huge inspiration, and looking good = feeling good 🙂

hmm, I sleep or go outside and buy stuff that I don’t need…

I sort of envy her because she has accomplished something fabulous and I haven’t done that much yet to speak of. Still reaching!

But when I am in a rut (which happens when I do stuff small but important) I usually feel like taking a short break and then coming back to it.

I hear you. It’s tough to stay constantly motivated. When I feel myself lagging, I try to work out and get fit. That way, I feel I’ve accomplished something important, no matter what else is going on.

Sorry to hear you’re in a rut sweetie. I also try to dress well to pick myself up. That, shopping, and carving out some time to do something creative usually helps lift me out of it. Hope you feel better soon! xoxo

Totally agree with dressly chicly whilst in a rut. I notice that when I feel gross and ugly I get no work done and mooch about feeling ick. When I do my hair properly, wear make up and make an effort with my clothes life miraculously seems sparkly and new. As for getting out of a rut, keeping busy and making yourself do things you don’t think you can do works for me 🙂

I always wondered how people could possibly be bored.
I don’t even get the idea.
I can NEVER so everything I want to in one day.
And I will never learn and see everything in this one life.

  • Kristin August 23, 2010 at 21:28

I usually take a break. Walking away for a few days usually brings back the inspiration!

  • MarchMusings August 24, 2010 at 00:13

Ultimately I have to snap out of it myself, atleast that’s what I’ve learned. Or…buy something fabulous and find an occasion to wear it!

I go for a long walk, ride my motorbike (that’s right, I have a sport bike), or search blogs 🙂

  • DiamondsandTulle August 24, 2010 at 06:35

I love to look at foreign fashion magazines for a fashion rut, or a really great styled movie for inspiration. Romantic comedies always get me in a great mood and ready to go out there and be an optimist again!
