Milan Fashion Week was a colorful affair full of funky cutout coats (a la Marni), floor-length floral, sheer chiffon gowns (a la Alberta Ferretti), and coordinating and contrasting spring patterns (a la D&G).
But I saw these two wildly different images and got to thinking – if you’re buying designer fashion, what style is worth it? Â What structured gown or must-have piece of outerwear justifies the hefty price?

Any piece of clothing I buy at any price point will have to have a little flair.  If I buy a designer piece, it would either have to be something like the Bottega Veneta – classic, effortless chic that can be dressed up or down and worn on a number of occasions (lowering the cost per wear right Tanvii?)  Or it has to be a crazy cool and utterly show stopping piece like the ethereal flowing piece above.
What are your thoughts? Â What designer pieces are worth the price for you?
I agree with you – If I buy something expensive it has to have some kind of flair or uniqueness about it!
I love Bottega Veneta! I say outerwear, you could wear it every day. I buy more expensive bags and shoes, then just wear Target or F21 clothes but the bags and shoes make everything look nicer! XX!
It’s a tough call, but I think I might lean towards a classic with some unique detail.
I want it to be recognizable but I also want to be able to wear it. A lot.
An over the top piece that makes me weak at the knees but only comes out once a year might not be worth it.
Absolutely RIGHT!!! As soon as I saw the two picture [without reading what you had said] I was drawn towards the Bottega Veneta. I do not see that Pucci dress being worn more than once [if at all!!!] Hehe … But I do LIKE … SUPER LIKE those boots on that Pucci model. I die!!! 🙂
I would definitely lean toward the classic look – I think I’d get more bang for my buck, since classic pieces are more timeless. But there is definitely something really fun about that Pucci dress . . . if only money were no object, right?
I have to admit that whenever I’m buying something designer, I like it to be unique. It doesn’t have to be outrageous; just unique enough to garner such a high price tag!! 😛
Effortless Elegance is my vote! These are gorgeous though. I love the flow of the dress in the second picture.

Ha look at those killer boots! Hmm I only splash out on classic pieces that I know I will be able to wear for years. Something that will never go out of style.
Totally agreeing ladies – classic pieces with a flair is a way to go (so sorry gorgeous Pucci, may not be able to wear you everywhere!)
I am in LOVE with that second picture. The dress…the boots…all of it. I wish I had her figure to pull something like that off.
When I buy designer, I try to find things that I can use for a long time. Because in general, I like to be somewhat frugal. I used to be an out of control shop-a-holic and have since mended my ways. Kind of.

LOVE these 2 dresses – but i dunno if i would spend big money – maybe on the black one – b/c it can last a lifetime – but def NOT the last one – that’s a 1 time wear dress ..

If I’m going to invest major bucks, I would go for something classic…but that second dress is too fabulous!
I loved that first classic look. And then saw the second flowing flowery with those extreme + excellent boots!!! A little swooning action over here. But for actual wearability… classic all the way!
I agree with you…if I was able to go big and buy designer even for a piece or two it would have to be special. The Pucci is absolutely beautiful – not sure where I’d wear it but boy would it be tempting.
Isabel Marant is a favorite of mine. Her stuff is not crazy priced, but it’s still too much for me…it would be wonderful to incorporate any of it into my daily wardrobe.
Then again anything Chanel (fur boots) or Miu Miu (all of it!!!) might get the better of me.

The fabric and cut have to be top of the line perfect!
For me, effortless elegance all the way. I think with statement pieces, you can only get so much wear out of them, and a lot of the time I find some things should really only be reserved for editorials. But that’s just my two cents!
