Pay it Forward this year

January 4, 2011

Sometimes small, meaningful actions can have unexpected and far reaching consequences.

I was inspired by Brunch at Saks to Pay it Forward – perform a kind gesture for someone and hope that person in turn does something nice as well making for a very lovely domino effect. Β If Haley Joel Osment can do it, I can do it too (without the sappy movie fanfare of course).

Here is my list of what I’ll do to Pay it Forward:
– open/hold a door for someone unexpectedly
– volunteer at a soup kitchen or deliver food to needy families
– call a friend or family member that I haven’t spoken to in a while
– breathe and calm down when I’m frustrated and try to think and speak positively
– get to know the security guard, condo technician, and other on-site staff
– say “Thank you” loudly when someone opens the door for me
– mentor a youth in some way
– say at least one nice thing in every conversation with my parents or brother
– team up with friends and/or family to encourage each other to live healthier lifestyles

How will you Pay it Forward?

It’s funny how at this time of year people make resolutions that are all about them and making their life better. I think you’re pretty wonderful because you care about making other people’s lives better. Happy New Year πŸ™‚

Oh wow! that’s a noble act to do! I’m inspired to do the same! i want to say thank you more often, and be more humble by saying sorry if i’m at fault. and by saying i love you (or showing that i care) to my family often πŸ™‚

  • PartyPlannerGal January 4, 2011 at 14:56

These are great ways to pay it forward – I really believe in the power of sending positive vibes out there. I could probably stand to pay it forward a little more, especially while commuting on the crowded bus!

This is a really good idea, a small effort can make a world of difference to someone. I try to smile all the time because instead of looking at a world of gloomy faces lets cheer it up a bit! xoxo

I love this idea! Sometimes, all you have to do is smile at someone to brighten their day…I think people often forget that paying it forward isn’t that hard to do! Thanks for this. xo

Great list for a great new year! I believe 2011 will be wonderful! I hope we can all pay it forward… better! Taking better care of our environment, be kind and giving and laugh easier. I think if we were not so sensitive we might manage to deal with anger easier. Laugh more no war:)

    Happy New Year!

  • Kristin January 5, 2011 at 02:46

  • style'n January 5, 2011 at 04:00

excellent idea and I think just being nicer in general and doing small things for others is a good way to pay it forward. I also like the idea of calling and making an effort to keep in touch with close friends and family more.

    I really like this one:

‘- say at least one nice thing in every conversation with my parents or brother’

I’m guilty of paying it forward and being nice to total strangers, but not enough to my own family.

Paying it forward begins in the home!
