Lights, camera, (fashion) lust!
Hollywood’s elite walk the red carpet in anticipation of the Academy Awards/Oscars 2011. I noticed a general lighter air to the gowns that were worn and picked a few favorites in the following categories:
Packing the perfect colorful punch with purple…
Mila Kunis in Elie Saab – sensual and elegant (a favorite of the night)!
Scarlett Johansson looking the bombshell as always in Dolce & Gabbana
Natalie Portman with a lovely maternal glow in Rodarte
Reeling in red…
Penelope Cruz in L’Wren Scott one month after giving birth (sigh, I want her trainer and her body)
Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang vs. Anne Hathaway in Valentino – I have to go with Sandra’s more shapely gown and interesting front silhouette
Jennifer Hudson is ravishing in Versace
Light gown lust with nudes and silvers
Michelle Williams’s Chanel gown was a favorite due to its simple and elegant draping
Hailee Steinfeld is age appropriate and adorable in Marchesa (how come a teenager gets to wear Marchesa before I do!)
Celine Dion in Giorgio Armani Prive vs. Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein – similar shapes but the fit is more flattering on Celine’s gown
Halle Berry in nude Marchesa vs. Hillary Swank in Gucci couture – strapless gowns with embellished skirts but I prefer Hillary’s gown because of the gradient color and texture from the feathers
Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier is simply elegant (and a rare instance where I like tulle, I suspect it’s silk tulle from the easy draping)
Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy gown is a worthy mention – I didn’t love the yellow trim or shoulders, but the detail is spectacular

Mila, JHud, Hailee and Hillary Swank looked gorgeous!! Paltrow, uh, not so much. She looked kind of washed out and I’ve seen her pull off some other really pretty looks so it was kind of disappointing.
Thank goodness you made it out of the plane and off the runway. What a gongshow!!

thanks so much for sharing! i didn’t get to watch the awards (time difference in Australia and all that.) gotta say, i LOVE Hailee Steinfeld. she is adorable and awesome in True Grit. you have to see it just for her!
I think Sandra Bullock deserves a most improved award from her Golden Globe appearance – what a difference!! And despite the yellow beading, I just adored Cate Blanchett – I love how she takes fashion risks – and she is so easy and confident that she always pulls it off with aplomb – loved the hair as well!
Cate was my HANDS down fave – LOVED Celine’s dress, Gwenyths and Michelles too!
Mila Kunis and Hillary Swank’s gowns were my favorites! Is it wrong that I don’t know who won what, but I know what everyone wore?

Mila, Halle, and Jennifer Hudson knocked out the box. They were my 3 faves… purple was hot for sure. Scarlett looked fabulous. Not crazy about the hair, though!

oh! i love how you organized this. i just went through as I saw things.
i loved the purples – didn’t love Scarlett’s thought – especially mila kunis.
I thought a lot of the red dresses were too similar though.
I agree with your top picks- I personally loved Scar Jo! Although I wasn’t a huge fan of Sandra’s look. Something felt harsh with her dark hair. Check out our round-up and let us know your thoughts.

Fabulous recap! I can’t believe they didn’t show it there. That’s too bad. My faves…Mila, Michelle, Hailee, Mandy, Cate, ScarJo, Natalie. I liked Hilary’s dress on the red carpet but wasn’t totally wowed by it until she got on stage. Then it really came to life! And Penelope & Javier make me want to have a baby right now if that’s what parenthood does to people. She was positively glowing and HOT!

i think celine looked amazing but the choice of necklace really irked me. it looked like the titanic necklace and i didnt like it.

I guess the winter has been less sunny down there, but everyone looks so PASTY!! Mandy Moore looks horrible here. Her skin totally blends with her dress and that hair makes her look so old. Natalie Portman though kicked ass and while pregnant too!
I liked a lot of the dresses last night, especially Mila Kunis’s. I love the color purple and thought the draping of her dress was really pretty. I also thought Natalie Portman looked gorgeous and was so happy that she won!
I actually did not like Mila Kunis’s dress as I thought it looked like she had lace pasties on! The girls need to be covered!

Although I loved the array of colours last night, I was adoring all the texture.
I thought Mila Kunis looked so beautiful too! The perfect look for her! Even though Cate Blanchett’s dress was a little different, I loved it too! such pretty choices!
