tweed gap peacoat

Wardrobe staple – tweed jacket

February 17, 2011

As I mentioned here, my love for Chanel is definitely due in large part to their flawless (and sometimes fanciful) execution of the classic tweed jacket. Β While I think a lovely Chanel tweed jacket is worth the cost, the reality is that it will take a while to save (or be willing to spend) for one! Β The good news is that there are many options for tweed outerwear ranging from the classic jacket to modern cardigans.

I love contrast trims…

MM Couture Miss Me gray jacket, Revolve Clothing, $114
BB Dakota Herringford tweed jacket, Revolve Clothing, $110
Rebecca Taylor sparkle tweed jacket, Revolve Clothing, $395
Contrast Sweater jacket, White House Black Market, $118
Β
…but a solitary color blend is also great
Tweed peacoat, Gap, $29.99 (on sale soΒ unfortunately most sizes sold out!)

Tweed cardigan, Ann Taylor, $59.99

Β
…as is a jacket with an extra touch of embellishment (the collar is amazing though I wish the jacket came in another color)
Galleria Addie jacket, Kate Spade, $179
Β
Do you have any favorite tweed jackets?

Most of them are a bit too preppy for my style, but I love the one on the top right! One of my friends at work today had on a great tweed jacket that would fit right in with this bunch, and when I complimented her on it, she said, “I call it my Coco Chanel jacket!” haha.

p.s. I have chili in my le creuset crockpot right now–it is literally almost constantly in use! Thank you so much!

I rather like the one on the top right that the stick from The City is wearing. It’s lovely!

  • very married February 17, 2011 at 16:35

i love these too! the problem I have though is that, physically, my best attribute is my waist. my least favorite physical attribute is my hips. So, you can imagine that a boxy jacket just makes me look big all around. So, i’m still in the search for the one that fits just right.

  • MizzJ February 17, 2011 at 18:29

Tweed is such a classic material and I do really love tweed jackets, but I find them a bit too preppy for my style. Any tips on how to make them more edgy?

Love the post! You know I am a huge fan of wardrobe staples πŸ˜‰ And the tweed jacket is definitely one of them. I love the rebecca taylor one! I am currently looking for a black one with leather pockets. I saw one at Barneys the other day but I am sure it’s out of my price range ;(

I’m loving the Marc by Marc Jacobs one!
    I don’t own a tweed jacket yet… I will soon:))

  • Chic 'n Cheap Living February 26, 2011 at 23:45

@MizzJ – sure tweed can definitely be more edgy! Look for modern cuts and colors (like the MBMJ one) and pair with an asymmetrical shirt or skirt with fun accessories!

  • Heather Taylor February 27, 2011 at 03:22

Most definitely a staple for any wardrobe.
