Wardrobe staple – Top Trouser jeans (some under $60!)

May 15, 2011

Denim has experienced a pretty meteoric rise in the last ten years.  We no longer blink at $100+ jeans and different levels of premium denim (though I will proudly say that I’ve gotten all my premium jeans for

But what styles should truly be wardrobe staples?  While skinny fit jeans have lasted a few seasons and wide leg/flared leg jeans are this year’s must-have, I’m aiming in the middle with a pair of trouser jeans.  These also have a flared leg and comfortable cut (for those days when you don’t wait your pants to be too tight), but still somewhat fitted. Most importantly, they are totally versatile and can be dressed up or down.

Here are my top picks:

Oh cute, I want a pair!

I love trouser jeans as well! Have a few pairs right now, and love how versatile they are! I am proud that I have gotten most of my premium denim for under $100, but I bought a couple pairs of citizens when they first landed in Nordstrom for basically full price (ouch)! What can I say, I was so excited about how they fit, I had to have them! Now I buy Citizens on ebay (often for less than $50)!

I generally wear a style similar to this – more boot cut like. I find they are much more flattering, especially since I am figured. Although I like straight leg as well, I leave the super skinny cigarette and pencil leg jeans to those young girls with more boyish bodies.

I love that trouser and wide-leg jeans are back! I never could rock the skinny jeans – they made me look too disproportionate. The Sevens are my favorites of the ones you posted 🙂

I practically live in my jeans. I think Iris Apfel recently said that she thinks paying excessive amounts for jeans is nonsene, since higher priced denim isn’t superior to retail branded ones. I’ve never paid more than $100 for a pair either. I need to dig out my more flared trouser jeans I wore when I was much younger, but I must say, I’ll never abandon my skinnies! Flares just don’t mesh with ballerinas.

I get all my designer jeans on sale too. With places like century 21, nordstrom rack, etc. there is no reason to pay full price!
