Photo Love {Inspiration}: Reflecting inside and out

June 13, 2011
Everyone and everything that shows up in our life is a reflection of something that is happening inside of us.
Alan Cohen

What do our reflections show? Sometimes we look in the mirror and see everything a tired face from a long day at work, a defeated look after an emotional encounter to an exuberant image of relief or happiness.  This reflection is certainly influenced by as well as impacts our environments and the people around us.
How do you want to see yourself?  I remember thinking that I should see more of the world and take a different professional path.  I wanted to be someone that was always moving forward and doing something to change her life so I took the leap in going to grad school and moving abroad.  I now find myself surrounded by like-minded, globe-trotting, ambitious friends who also want to see themselves and their lives in a different light.  I wanted to be more confident and proud of the person I saw in the mirror and knew that I had to make small changes in myself in order to do that.   They weren’t easy changes and I am still making them, but they were important for me to make.
Be the you that you want to see in the mirror and you just may find some interesting images in your reflection and your life.
Have a lovely week!

I love your thoughts and comments. I am going through a lot of personal change and growth and one thing that keeps cropping up for me is the importance of family…I am considering moving back home because I feel a part of me is missing..

Wonderful piece and great advice. Sometimes it takes an honest look in the mirror inside and out to think about what you’re really seeing and more importantly want to see and feel!! Great inspiration to start the week!

This is such a beautiful and inspirational post. I love the photos you chose to go with it as well.

These days it has been difficult to look i nthe mirror and like what I see. Physically, I am not up to par with my weight loss goals. I am also not in a stage of my life where I wanted to be by now…sigh.

I think many people get too complacent and perhaps despite wanting a change, just can’t be bothered with it. I think my biggest steps were definitely to move country more than four times. Each one came with a huge risk in terms of career and relationship, but I’ve grown so much.

Hope you enjoyed the Met exhibit!

I’m proud of you for taking the plunge to move aboard for school! If there is one thing I wished I did in college, it was living aboard for a semester. It’s still one of my biggest dreams and you are living my dream so go you!! I’m beginning to see myself better than ever in the mirror, thanks to the great opportunities I’ve received through some hard work. I gotta say-right now I’m loving my reflection.

Great post. It’s very hard to battle your own inertia when it comes to making big changes in your life. Sometimes I get scared of being too settled for that reason! Definitely a post to ponder.

Also, beautiful photos you chose for this!
