It is one of the ultimate brands in women’s handbags and its “CC” logo brings a flutter to many hearts.
Unfortunately (or rather fortunately for Chanel itself), Chanel handbags have literally doubled in the past decade. E.g. a reissue 227 was $2095 in 2005 and is $4700 in 2011. Ridiculous to the ridiculous power (except for Chanel executives who are smart indeed).
But this also means that if you own a Chanel bag, you can actually resell it and likely make back a large portion of your money or even make money (I’ve seen this happen with the reissue bag – it sold for $500 above retail though it had a slight stain!) In fact, I think that a Chanel purse is a pricey, but less risky investment because of its high resale value and constant price increases.

So do you think a Chanel purse is worth it?
i could never feel good about myself if I spent that much money on a bag. But then again, my diaper bag has turned into my purse so a lot has changed!
They are stunning bags though and I suppose if you have the $, it’s definitely a fun splurge.

The Perfect Palette
Yes yes yes! I have two…the classic quilted one that I got from my husband 10 years ago for an anniversary present…still in style! and I inherited a patent leather one that is about 50 years old that still looks so elegant. Definite investment.
I do LOVE Chanel handbags however I can’t justify spending that much money on a purse. I feel like there are tons of other great options without spending that much!
I have the classic chanel bag but stop carrying it around because half of Paris owns one these days!
It’s now sitting at the back of my wardrobe. I do have quite alot of vintage Dior and chanel bags, though. Best to get them at auctions;-)
Because I put such an emphasis on my handbags, and because fashion is more than just material things for me, I honestly believe that it is worth it for a Chanel bag. It would have to be a very special Chanel that I feel a bond/connection with, but I can see myself purchasing one in the future.

Chanel bags are timeless. So worth it.

If you have the money then I guess it is worth it … but if you have limited funds then I’d rather get 2-3 bags instead of one Chanel! (But I do WANT one!)

And I don’t know if it’s worth it. I think those bag are very pretty, but they became so popular that I began to like them less.

I think this is definitely a great investment to pass on, similar to family jewellry, however I do lament ever knowing when I’ll be able to actually justify buying one myself!
I’m guilty, I have the classic, bought it as a fashion investment (any excuse for a beauty piece of arm candy)

I don’t think I’d be able to part with that amount of cash for one bag. I’d rather spend the money on a fun piece of costume jewelry from Chanel or a scarf.
I say “yes.” I have never spent that much on a handbag, but of all the accessories that one could buy, a purse seems to be the best investment (unlike shoes, which sadly wear out no matter how good the quality due to normal wear and tear). And since Chanel bags have withstood the test of time in terms of style, this seems like a safe bet 🙂
I’m a pretty big believer in the power of Chanel. I think it’s the only handbag worth the price. I’m still hoping for one someday. I just need to get a real job first! I’d only get the black one with the gold hardware because it’s the only one I love and I will probably only be lucky enough to own one per lifetime!

I’ve had the pleasure of holding Chanel bags but do not own one. I think they are a bit overpriced, but I would still love to splurge on one someday.
I wouldn’t pay for it because while I love Chanel and what it represents, I’ve never really wanted one of these bags. Its not really my style. Thats a really cool wardrobe though!

It is pretty amazing how high the prices they have gotten…but they are still selling bags like nobody’s business!! You can buy a used car for the same price but sadly I would rather have the bag!! haha. xo

My only chanel bag was a gift from my parents, so I guess I’m not the best person to ask. To me it was worth it, but it wasn’t my money, haha. I can’t imagine spending $4,000 on one item other than an evening gown, jewelry, wedding dress or a car. However, Chanel bags are totally timeless and if you take care of them they’ll last forever.
