Decor Thoughts: Unique lighting for the home

May 9, 2012
When you walk into a room, what do you notice?

One of the things that strike me most about a room is the lighting – it can be the amount of light or type  of lighting in a room.  Our new apartment has several groups of interesting pendant lighting in the living room.  But I would love to have chandeliers (including my most popular pin on Pinterest with a chandelier in a pink and gray bedroom!) some day to give that unexpected chic edge.  Unique lighting in the most unusual places – like a kitchen or bedroom – really make an unexpected statement.  Or lighting in different forms, like in the stainless steel chandelier or adorable bowling hats (how fun for a family room!) would be fun too!

Unique lighting can also be a chic, but cheap way (at least cheaper relative to other large statement pieces) to make a great decor statement.

What are your favorite examples of lighting?

these are such great examples of useful and beautiful lighting. right now we just have a stand up lamp and the chandelier that came with the apartment, but i’m hoping for some more interesting pieces (like the 5th photo w/ the silver discs.

Love that third one, it is stunning!! The rest of them would make me feel like I was in a restaurant too much. But, that one I love :)) Happy Wednesday doll x

Such ingenious ways of lighting up a room. An interesting light fitting really defines a living space. These are so creative, the dice is so cute!

I love the look of chandeliers, but with our 14-foot ceilings in our rental, I somehow don’t think we’re going to be able to have any while we live here. I desperately need to work on the lighting in our apartment – it can really change the entire look and feel of a room!

These are so playful and fun. I especially like the hats and the wire chandelier. I saw a really fun one in Ikea the other day…

    Great post!

Hello!I love all the ideas, except for the last picture!in my house I have opted mainly for low-profile lamps, like apliques, built-in spotlights, ceiling lamps. In the living room though I’ve treated myself with a chandelier made of three apple- shaped crystal lamps hanging by means of straight transparent wires at a low height over the table. May I also add that what I love the most is a candle-lit room!ciao

I love unique lighting choices, I’m usually too much of a chicken to use them myself!
