Photo Love {Inspiration}: Mental break in Bali

May 14, 2012
One travels to escape from it all, but that is the great illusion: It cannot be done, since one travels with one’s mind.
Ella Maillart

Is it possible to actually get away from it all?  While I can’t take much time off, I’m happy that I have the option to make a quick trip during the weekends (like this coming weekend to a wedding though it would be cool if it was in Bali!)  It is hard to stop thinking about all the things that I have to do, but it does help to have a change of environment.  While I can’t fully escape thinking and worrying about ongoing issues, I can at least try to start thinking about trying to relax by a serene sunset.

I place such a high priority on travel not only because I want to see the world and family in different corners of the globe, but I also want to give myself a mental and physical break from the craziness of everyday life.  I find that if I am busy doing other activities, it does start to put my mind at ease, even if only temporarily.  We all need those breaks somehow, even if we may not all be lucky enough to go to Bali (though you deserve it!)  So I hope you can plan a vacation soon, recharge, and renew yourself.

How do you get away from it all?

Have a lovely week!

That first quote is just so true! I honestly have a very hard time turning it all off. Usually a vacation helps me get away (if I’m far enough away) but if that isn’t an option then a nice hot bath is usually what I do.

Gorgeous photos! I’ve heard that Bali is absolutely breathtaking. I can’t wait to travel there one day. I love the quote – this sounds silly, but the night before a vacation I imagine myself locking all of my work worries behind an imaginary door in my brain – this allows me to truly enjoy my vacations without worrying about what’s going on back home. I “unlock” the door once every day or so for about 15 minutes to check work email – then the door locks again. It may not work for all, but it has really helped me!

I suppose you are right, if we take our problems with us, how can we actually relax and enjoy the beauty and the break?

I’d like to think if that was my view right now I could do it, but we may never know…

Love those images–I know what you mean–wishing I could be on permanent vacation, but sometimes it’s nice to be home too!
