Fashion and Interiors: Beige and White

August 15, 2012

I grew up in houses with all white walls (actually I still live with them since we are renting and can’t paint our walls!)

1, Vogue Italia March 2012, 3, 4

I used to fantasize about all the colors I could paint the walls – dove gray, light mint, or rich red come to mind.  But I recall going to a friend’s housewarming party and seeing the muted colors she used for her decor – beige and white.  The beige and white contrast walls were very elegant and subdued.  She dressed up the decor with interesting pieces from trips to Bali and these brought a nice dimension to the otherwise understated colors.  Beige and white is definitely classic and conservative, but that doesn’t mean that it is boring (especially when it is filled with statement pieces!)  I’m reminded of a home in the country or a staple summer outfit (white shirt and khakis of course).

There are definitely reasons why some combinations remain classic.

I live neutral colours on the walls, as you can give your house a different look depending on how you decor it 🙂

I love the third photo, and of course the model’s shoes in the last! I have white walls, too, but think I won’t stray too far from them once we own. I love muted colors, and dressing them up with fun statement pieces always works!

I have beige walls. Then I like to add pieces of color through decor. It’s great having a neutral palette.
