Fashion Highlight: No pastels here at Christian Dior, Lanvin, and Isabel Marant for Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013

October 2, 2012

When I think of spring, I think of pastels. But many Paris Fashion Week designers, similar to Milan Fashion Week designers, shunned neutral light colors in favor of more daring details and colors, especially focusing on basic black.  I actually really liked that concept.  Of course all New Yorkers will have a few black pieces in their wardrobe and warmer weather doesn’t mean all of their black pieces are pushed to the back of their closets.  Here simple bold black dresses and jackets are front and center (especially for Raf Simmons’ bold debut) and prints are strong and edgy.  My take: rock the blazer and wear a print well.

Here are a few favorites from:

Christian Dior

The mood signified a new, but restrained “freedom” with familiar, but re-imagined silhouettes (think ball gown tops or modern suits).

Styling consisted of bold eyes embellished with crystals topped off with neat hair and simple, two-toned shoes.

Lanvin

The mood contained a little bit of “purity and precision” while also celebrating “deconstructed classicism” – classic but also subtlely sexy.

Styling consisted of the eternally sexy smokey eye and slightly tousled hair.

Isabel Marant

The mood was bright and casual and took on inspiration from Elvis in his many forms from young and bright to tropical and fun.

Styling was as carefree as the clothing and the looks were topped off with simple accessories and free flowing hair.

I love that first set, it’s gorgeous and I would love to have those :)) I wear dark stuff all year round, sometimes lighter stuff is nice, but I just get drawn into darker colours sometimes. Have a fab day doll xx

The Christian Dior looks are fantastic! I’m excited to see a break from pastels for the spring season. These looks are edgy, fun and unexpected.

You picked some of my favorite designers from this past fashion week. It’s interesting the way black came in so strong for spring in europe.

I dream of owning something from Lanvin someday! And I am quite glad to see that pastels had their heyday in Spring 2012.

Congrats on making it to Links A La Mode this week!
The recap is very nice – I like that you included the concept and the styling. It adds a lot to the garments themselves. It looks like the 70s are making a comeback.

Thanks so much! Yes I do love not only the clothing, but the vibe and overall styling of the outfits.

Love your SS13 picks, especially the Lanvin. The mood this coming spring is definitely more refined that SS12, and somehow quite refreshing after all those neons and superbright prints! Congrats on making LALM this week 🙂
