Can a working woman have it all? All of course equates to the corner office and a few smiling, cherubic little ones in the back of the mini van. This is a question that the modern woman is constantly trying to answer, but hasn’t necessarily come to terms with yet. I am all for breaking the glass ceiling and pushing for the boy’s club to let in worthy females as well. But high powered women with families are almost always faced with the perennial question of how to balance work life with family life. I won’t go into the tips of how to juggle a fast paced career or relay anecdotes of famous high profile women and how they coped – this famous article by Anne-Marie Slaughter – former director of Policy Planning for the Department of State- does a great job at that.
But I will echo Ms. Monroe’s sentiments above – ladies, if you love your work, go for it! But also remember to love and spend time with your loved ones.
While this editorial in US Vogue shows a corporate woman wearing bold outfits running around the city to do her job, hopefully she remembers to slow down and enjoy her time outside of work as well.

This is an age-old question that I’m not sure will ever be answered. I think about it a lot myself, as I’m 31 and love my career, but don’t have any kids yet . . . seriously thinking about this is something I’ll have to contend with in the next 5 years. I think it’s especially hard for people like me who have such a hard time letting go of control . . . I want to put a million percent into everything, but you just can’t do that balancing a career, a family, a social life, etc. Something I’ll be meditating on soon. 🙂

Love those and I love their hair :)) I think it’s cool to have goals and be driven, but sometimes we must step back and realise what’s more important in life and not forget to spend time with those that we love and support us!! Hello dear, I see a lot of worthy reads to catch up on, but I decide to start with this hot topic. I think that women could have it all, if they some of men’s carelessness. I mean, if a man with kids can manage a high-profile career and still spend some quality time with his family, why most women think they can’t? Does a man feel guilty towards his kids because he has to work late hours? Unheard of. On the other hand, a working mum is ostracised both if she spends more time at work than at home, and vice versa. I think that we could have it all if we just could be kinder with ourselves and get rid on an emotional level of the stressful expectations we feel imposed on by social standards. Let’s get it all and change social standards. Sorry for the preaching, it’s just such a touchy subject for me!thank you for bringing it up. Have a great start to the week ahead. Lots of love Coco
Great points! The self-imposed and societal expectations of women are just huge! Women are punished either way and it will take the gradual, but difficult shift of these standards for women to really achieve the balance.
Another great editorial – I love these clothes, especially that green dress. I read that article awhile back, and it definitely makes some good points. I don’t know the secret either, but I’m guessing that my perfectionist ways will need to come to an end when and if I becomes a mother. Something is going to have to give, and I’d rather it be my career, as scary as that sounds.
I’m with you. I’m not a perfectionist, but am a little bit of a control freak. I’ll just have to get over it and make the tradeoff when the time comes!

I love Marilyn’s quote! It’s so true! I feel everyone needs balance in their life. If you’re missing love in your life, it will show up. You need a little bit of everything. This question that women must choose either a great career or happy home life I feel is always a touchy matter for some, I really feel a woman can in fact have both, it is circumstanstial , adnd yes it will be difficult at times. But, I think happiness outranks everything. As a person who sort of changed my fashion career many years ago I have far more balance and happiiness in my life than I used to doing my then corporate stressful environment. I love those shoes as well. xo
