Beauty Product Review: Bare Minerals Regular and Matte Mineral Foundations

November 7, 2012

My mother has always said, and continues to say to me “Never put anything (foundation or powder) on your face and your skin will be healthy!”

I followed this advice for more than 25 years and would only occasionally put on sunblock.  Then I discovered wow, I just look a lot better with some foundation!  No one needs to see those dark circles under my eyes now!  But I still understood and was worried about the core of my mother’s argument – there was a possibility that all the accumulated foundation would block my pores and end up ruining my skin.

So when I got married a few years ago and needed a good, but light foundation, I discovered Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals.  I went for a facial test drive at the store in NYC and was pleasantly surprised by even coverage of the mineral foundation.  I was also happy to discover powder foundation that wasn’t supposed to clog my pores.  I now regularly used Bare Minerals foundation, especially on days when I feel like I need to really even out my complexion/hide my lack of sleep from the previous night!  I first started using the Bare Minerals regular foundation, but have also used the Bare Minerals matte formula as well.  They are both easy to use and similar so I wanted to review them together.

I definitely get a more even skin tone (with light to medium coverage) after using the powder and I love that it takes about 45 seconds to apply!

Here is a before and after picture of the foundation on my cheeks (any way I can make my freckles less noticeable is always great!)

Bare Minerals Matte SPF15 Foundation

Recommend

– Yes!  This evens out your complexion nicely and feels really light!

Pros

– Great coverage and feel

Wow I can def. see an improvement (and I’m always very suspicious of foundation claims). I’ve seen BE around forever but never tried it – maybe I need to get cracking!

ooo, i’m interested in trying this 🙂 i really like how easy to apply it is, how natural it is, and the spf.

This sounds lovely but I always come back to liquid foundations in the end! Though these days I am more of a BB girl…

    • Chic 'n Cheap Living November 7, 2012 at 10:04

Emma, I totally agree and this is a lighter coverage than liquid foundation. Oh I really need to try BBs. I know you’ve reviewed a few – what are your top 3?

  • LadyG November 7, 2012 at 03:27

I try not to use foundation whenever possible and made sure that I have my face properly cleansed off if I did. Sometimes when your skin looks dull or blemished, a little foundation can give a major confidence boost.

Expensive, but it certainly works. Great product. Thanks for the review.

Putting this on my Christmas list– I look like a ghost without powder/ foundation but never wear it because I break out SOOO bad. I think we have a store nearby so i’ll go in and get gussied up! 🙂

  • Bravoerunway November 7, 2012 at 07:49

I need full coverage…I have read great reviews in bare minerals but have yet to try it!

    • Chic 'n Cheap Living November 7, 2012 at 10:24

Bessie, this provides pretty good coverage, but not the full flawless finish of a liquid foundation. But I definitely look a lot better even though I only put on a light dusting in 45 seconds!

  • Cafe Fashionista November 7, 2012 at 08:08

My sister is OBSESSED with Bare Minerals foundation! I don’t wear foundation myself; but this definitely looks like an amazing one. 🙂

I’ve heard such amazing things about bare minerals, will need to try this!! XO

I’ve been wanting to try Bare Minerals forever. I still use Clinique Superbalanced foundation, but it may be time to make a switch to something a bit lighter.

I love Bareminerals! I have pretty good skin but you know … the uneven blotches … Bareminerals actually helps even out my skin tone and sometimes I don’t even have to wear it and I still look like I am. It is awesome stuff. I’ve been wearing it for roughly 2 years and I am never switching back to liquid foundation … eek!

I don’t think it is expensive – seriously think of all the times you bought foundation and it didn’t work and you had to buy more or two shades to blend. The $25 foundation goes a long way … MONTHS! The initial start up is kinda pricey … but buy the kit at Sephora – it’s the best deal!! Sign up with BM online and get discounts to future purchase – 10 off after 100, etc.

    Great post!

Excellent review! I’ve always needed some type of foundation. Bare Minerals is really great (I’ve tried it!), but I require more coverage. But if you already have great skin and are looking for something to give you that extra pizzazz, bare minerals is the ticket.

Hi dear, thanks so much for your great insight on my last post, I really appreciate it. also, thanks for this recommendation, I prefer using mineral based makeup, and this one seems to be effective and quite natural looking too, which is ideal!

  • Heather November 7, 2012 at 17:59

I also feel I look a lot better with foundation. I usually pair a tinted moisturizer with mineral power, and it works great!

  • Johanna November 7, 2012 at 21:30

I used to use BM and loved it. Now I feel like I should give it a shot again.

  • Bree November 7, 2012 at 22:08

I love BM, I have the customized set of foundation, bronzer and setting powder and I seriously love it. It’s a staple in my makeup routine!

  • Karina November 8, 2012 at 00:52

I’ve never really tried foundation but this one looks good, I need to try some!

This foundation really does seem to do the trick. And I”m not surprised. I have been hearing amazing reviews about this brand for years. It seems to be one of the best. Once my financial state turns around, I will most likely be checking out Bare Minerals. 🙂

I love Bare Minerals! It does a great job evening out my skin tone (have rosy cheeks). I tend to use it more in the summer time so it can soak up all the oils (sweat) on my face.

Love the coverage of bare minerals matte formula and mineral makeup in general. xo-Jane http://www.sheermiracle.com
