Beauty Product Review: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

March 28, 2013

It isn’t easy finding a good lipstick.

First you have to decide what brand you want to concentrate on – would you save and get a drugstore brand or splurge on a higher end brand from a department store?  Then you have to test all of those shades against your skin.  It can definitely lead to many a day  furiously drawing thin lines of lipstick on your hand or trying to scrape a clean portion of lipstick from the side of the tube to try on your mouth (guilty of the latter because my face and hands aren’t the same shade).

In the meantime, it is useful to build an inventory of staple products.  I bought Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick mostly on a whim and a good discount.  I was pleasantly surprised by the color payoff and medium length staying power of this established drugstore brand (it did rub off when I drank water and ate food).  I tried “Certainly Red” and love the vibrant color and re-applied once after snacking outside on a warm and balmy night (everything pretty much melted at that point).

So if you can pay any price for lipstick, why not pay a lower price?

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Recommend

– Yes, with reservations! This is a well priced lipstick with average staying power and nice pigmentation

Pros

– Nice range of moisturizing colors

Cons

– As with most drugstore lipsticks, you can’t test the product in store so it can be hard to select a shade

Price

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, Target, $4.99 (wow – great price!)

Look at your pretty smile! Love the shade – I haven’t found my perfect red yet, but love wearing hot pink for special occasions.

You are too sweet. Have you tried Mac Ruby Woo or Pro longwear in lasting lust? I saw a post about Chanel Rouge Double Intensité in Ruby Lite and that is supposed to be a nice blue red. Otherwise, as you can see Revlon Certainly Red is a nice, bright pink/red.

That’s my reason is for not purchasing expensive lipsticks any more. You have to throw them in 6 months anyways! Revlon has some great choices.

Tanvi, you are totally right dear! I still have a fancy lipstick or two, but I’m finding decent (admittedly not stellar) lipsticks are great as well!
