FFF/Art Highlight – In the Clouds in London St Pancras Station and unexpected friends

May 3, 2013

Happy Fun, Free Friday lovelies!

Art Highlight

I love finding art in public places.  Why should art be confined to museums? Some of my favorite art is in the subways of New York – does anyone recall seeing little brass sculptures around 14th Street on the L train stop?  Anyway, it is great to find art in unexpected places.  This installation of clouds by Lucy and Jorge Orta in St Pancras station is whimsical and unexpected. I suppose we all feel like our heads are in the cloud sometimes!

Otherwise this weekend I am…

…meeting a friend that is in town.  My husband and I met him on a boat trip in Phuket and instantly hit it off.  This friend is one of those naturally sociable guys and we talked to him almost all day during that trip.  He is Canadian and taking a leave of absence from work so it will be nice to catch up with him in this corner of the world.  I almost never talk to strangers (call it cautiousness from a NYC upbringing) but it is nice to make an unexpected friend now and then.

What are you doing this weekend?

Have a fabulous weekend!

Love those clouds – finding art in unexpected places is one of life’s little pleasures I think. Hope you have a fun weekend. It’s supposed to be 90 degrees here, so not quite sure, although sitting at the hockey game near the ice is beginning to sound good!

wow, what a magical installation. it’s almost like you’d miss it if you didn’t happen to look up. when you are traveling you are so often rushing or focused on not missing the train you might not!

What a cool installation! I wish our metro stations in Vancouver were so glamourous; they’re all quite new and very industrial looking, despite the attempts at public art that they’ve put in (rather sad compared to NYC!)

I know what you mean about randomly chatting up strangers. I used to be much more open to it when I was younger and since moving away from the small town I grew up in, I’ve become gradually less friendlier. Recently though, I’ve decided to actively try to change that – nothing wrong with a spot of small talk with strangers and it always helps pass the time in lineups!
