Savvy vs. Splurge/Jewelry under $100: J. Crew Bubble Necklace vs. Panacea Bubble bib and Greenish Shop mini bubble necklace

May 7, 2013

Do you get caught up in jewelry trends?

I’m a bit of a holdout when it comes to trendy jewelry.  I’m only now considering getting a YSL Arty ring and got my first J. Crew bubble necklace last weekend (note: the J. Crew outlets can be awesome and the entire store  at Las America San Diego was 50% off!!!)  I bought the white version not because it was the hot necklace du jour, but because I think it is a versatile piece that instantly dresses up an outfit.

The bubble necklace is definitely a fun, easy to wear statement necklace and it was only a matter of time before this jewelry piece would inspire similar designs at other price points.

I just discovered Veryjane (it seems to be a flash sale site for smaller merchants that are usually on Etsy) which is now offering the Greenish shop version of the bubble necklace for under $10.  I was very tempted to get a version in mint though that color sold out.  What do you think?  Would you be savvy or splurge (though now the splurge version is also under $50!)

I LOVE the color of the Bubble Necklace from J. Crew! 🙂

With bubble necklaces, I would definitely purchase a cheaper version because I don’t think it’s a trend that will last long. Great post!

You should buy quality that you love, not let trends dictate how long you will wear it 😉

Well said Letitia! I am most definitely willing to pay for quality pieces. I made the mistake of buying a lot of random pieces when I was younger because those pieces were affordable and trendy. Now I try to be selective about what I buy, regardless of price.

At that price, I would probably go for the “splurge”, but I do think there are some great copies as well. I still don’t have a bubble necklace, but need to change that soon!

I love the green necklace, I am usually not one for jewellery so I would not splurge because I know I would only wear something 2 or 3 times. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your fashion opinions with me 🙂

I really want to like these necklaces but for some reason I don’t. If I was to get one I’d be savvy about it!

I do like the blue necklace!

Love this post! I am a sucker for anything mint (hence the colors of Lillie Magazine!) but I think statement jewelry in of itself is timeless and I’m so excited you found that Etsy version because I never heard of Veryjane 🙂
