CnC Living Recommends/Store Review: Hermès Rue de Sèvres

October 1, 2013

Step inside 17 Rue de Sèvres and step into a fantastic interior space you may not expect from Hermès.

This 14,500 square meter store front is the former Lutetia hotel’s indoor swimming pool that was built in 1935. A visitor enters on the ground floor and is presented with the brand’s famous bracelets and silk scarves.  But once she walks a few steps further, she is presented with three giant conical “huts”designed by architect Denis Montel. These latticed structures showcase jewelry and home decor and are surrounded by ready to wear clothing, inviting sofas, and beautifully intricate iron balconies.

I wrote about this store here, but had to see it myself and dragged my husband to this particular store to see and experience the imaginative interior for myself.  The store itself also celebrates the brand’s renewed push into designing interiors with furnishing fabrics, wallpaper, and carpets.

There’s a bookstore too, the Chaîne d’Encre created with Actes Sud with an array of books from architecture, photography, applied arts and horse riding. Le Plongeoir is a must-try tea bar on the balcony, serving  a wide range of infussion teas, 17 to be precise, to recall that the store is located 17 Rue de Sèvres in Paris.

Oh my, all those orange boxes! I made my first in-store purchases here and yes, my heart did skip a beat at grabbing these early birthday/belated anniversary gifts (reveal when my birthday rolls around!)

I simply love these huts!  They are so organic and gorgeous.

This whimsical mural is supposed to depict different members of the Hermès founding family. How fun!

I would definitely recommend browsing this store if you are in Paris.  We may not all own Birkins, but we can still appreciate great design!
