Natural Beauty DIY: DIY Brown Sugar Conditioning Lip Scrub

November 26, 2013

Ever since I discovered lip scrubs, I love using them to exfoliate and moisturize.

It’s a simple step, but necessary step to ensure your lips look great and lip product (like a great bright, red lipstick) goes on smoothly.  I made a coconut oil lip scrub for summer here, but also have a tub of this lip scrub ready as well.  The olive oil is very moisturizing while the honey has helped heal small little cuts in my lips. The brown sugar doesn’t provide as much of an exfoliating texture as caster (fine) sugar, so if you really need to scrub those lips, replace the brown sugar with caster sugar.  I also see this recipe as more of a lip conditioner because the honey and olive oil are really great lip moisturizers.

Mostly, I like this simple lip scrub because it can be made with ingredients you may already have at home.  Scrub your lips and enjoy!

DIY Brown Sugar Conditioning Lip Scrub

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey (raw if possible)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Preparation and instructions

1. Mix all ingredients together to create a paste.

2. Apply mixture to your lips for ten minutes.  Then clean mixture from your lips with water or a napkin.  You may find yourself licking some off and that’s ok too!

Benefit Rundown

  • Brown sugar is a natural exfoliant
  • Honey encourages healthy cell turnover in the skin
  • Olive oil will moisturize the skin

A lip scrub is definitely a must for me at this time of year = usually I use Lush scrubs, but I must give this a go sometime, it looks so easy! xo

Val, these ingredients could definitely work on your face as well though I think sugar may be a bit rough as an exfoliant. But honey and oil would be great antiseptic and moisturizing ingredients. Of course make sure to rinse the olive oil off well!

sounds very cool! my sister does the alike (a little more honey then you do as far as I know).
I still keep on reading and asking about it as I’m allergic to honey.. which happens to be in everything

Lyosha, oh no! I didn’t know that you were allergic to honey! I like using it a lot in beauty products because of its antiseptic properties. But I made a coconut oil sugar scrub as well last time that you could make too!
