Natural Beauty DIY: Rosewater and chamomile toner

July 2, 2014

Chamomile is one of my favorite, if not my favorite tea.

My first experience with chamomile was when I was about 15 years old.  I was in Spain for a study abroad session in the summer.  It was my first chance to travel by myself and it was so fun hanging out with other students and getting to know Madrid.  One day when we were walking through the metro, someone bumped against me roughly and grabbed my wallet just as I put it back in my tote bag.  He rushed through the turnstile and my teacher attempted to run him down in the station with no luck.  I was distraught by the experience and my teachers took me to their apartment and calmed me down with a cup of chamomile tea.  Ever since then, I have remembered this incident and the comforting associations with this soft tea.

Chamomile isn’t just great for sipping though, it has some pretty beneficial properties for your skin.  It has similar anti-inflammatory properties to rosewater.  I had a bottle of rosewater sitting in my refrigerator after a good friend prepared a wonderful meal for us one time.  I have no idea how to use it in cooking, but loved discovering its skin benefits.  I combined the two ingredients and have a wonderfully fragrant and light toner.  It seriously smells like a wonderfully fragrant perfume (it also reminds me of lychee!) and I like how it has imparted a mild softness to my skin too.  Try out this easy toner and calm your summer skin too (note: test out both ingredients on a small area of skin to make sure you aren’t allergic to the ingredients!)

This toner does sounds like it would smell lovely. I’ve never done anything with chamomile apart from drinking the tea. I had no idea it was also good for the skin. Thanks for sharing!

I never really realized how simple and inexpensive it is to make your own beauty products. I’m sure they are so much better for you too.

Oooh—- what a beautiful idea for a toner! I love the scent of both and as I am always one to opt for a natural option I would definitely give this a go…
