My New Years Goals 2015

January 14, 2015

So I have to keep my promises and actually set my New Year resolutions, or New Year goals.

I already set myself up for how I could actually keep my resolutions, but now am setting them forth on this virtual sheet of paper so I HAVE so I am accountable for them.

So here they are:

1. Be more present

I felt like I wasn’t always connected to the moment in recent months.  This was partially due to always thinking about the little one, a general constant lethargy, and mindless distraction.  But I want to enjoy the moments, those little spaces interspersed in my day that are quiet and sweet, whether they are with my little one, or with my husband.

One concrete step my husband and I have taken towards this is watching less tv.  He arrives home late most days and we have few waking hours together.  When we are together, we usually watch some old episodes of “The West Wing” or a random show like “Battlestar Galactica” and “True Detective”.  While it is a nice way to unwind, it is pretty mindless and doesn’t need to be done every single free moment.  We did NOT watch tv for the first time in a long time last night and it was nice to sit and chat a little and take a little catnap on the couch.  I want more moments like those!

2. Prioritize me and we time

It is all about the little lady these days.  I have never had such a singular/ridiculously cute focus in my life and have the hundreds of videos and photos to prove it.  We also don’t talk about anything else besides her.  While she is the most important thing in my life, she can’t be the only thing in it.  I am trying to etch out more and more time devoted to my interests and activities.  I also had a tough time remembering my role as a partner after the little one arrived.  We devoted all our time and energy to her, we almost forgot about ourselves.  This is a family where we all have important relationships with each other and we shouldn’t forget about any of them.

I am taking a few more minutes for myself every day which makes me a bit happier.  The husband and I are also trying to do date night again as well as try out a new activity – hmm, maybe golf?  We actually are going to hire some help which also makes it much easier for us to go out together or carve out time for ourselves while ensuring the little one is well.

3. Have a healthier diet

I am a savory junk food addict.  Give me sour cream and onion chips, spicy Doritos, or honey mustard pretzels any day!  I also started eating like a linebacker when the little one arrived.  Luckily, I actually haven’t gained weight (I don’t eat an entire bag of junk food!)  But I’m sure this good fortune will only last so long.

I’m easing into healthier snacks (plain pretzels or crackers or even peas) and also trying to eat a bit more fruit.  Fuji apples are a great sweet treat and I need to buy fruit more often!

4. Create

I want to actually create more – whether it is more photography, more posts here, or more natural recipes.  I really miss devoting more time towards those pastimes.  I also miss developing my own skills in those areas.  I’ve had a few friends say that I have a great eye and I want to be able to capture more special moments with my camera.

I’m once again starting to actually think about a blog schedule (drafting post ideas in advance).  I also paid for an online photography class so that I feel like I have to make the most of my purchase.  Finally, I’m reading more great articles and doing more research on great natural beauty recipes.

5. Connect

I felt like I was in a mommy bubble for the longest time and everything was about the baby/everything else was neglected.  I don’t have any friends here with babies (although one is due any day!) It can be lonely being a mom and admittedly, some of that loneliness was self-inflicted as I worry about the little one’s nap times and schedule.  I also wasn’t able to connect with as many people in a professional setting as I try to work my way over towards a slightly different career path.

I’m trying to connect to other moms via Meetup and will go to a few talks about health and wellness.  I’m also going to try to stay more connected here as well!  I’m so thankful to meet or chat with a few of you and am ever thankful quite a few of you guest posted here as well.  I hope we can keep it up! Let’s connect via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

I’m also going to network with at least 3 new people this year.  If I want to make a change and meet more people, I just have to do it right?

What are your goals for this year?

I haven’t really made any, except for the usual I guess. The kind everyone makes; lose weight, eat better etc, etc. I haven’t been as motivated this year since the past few years I’ve set goals and haven’t been able to meet them. They’ve been rather important and it’s been soul-crushing not to get remotely near them. Not that I’ve given up, I haven’t, they’re on the horizon and I’m reaching as far as I possibly can! I just didn’t want to put it out there again or give myself time restraints.

Great goals! I’m also trying to watch less TV this year, since it’s mostly mindless and sucks up time that could be better spent doing other things.

These are amazing goals! A blogger that had a baby, goes to mommy groups and she LOVES IT! So nice to socialize and talk to others that are going through the same things as you. It truly helps! I love that you and your hubby are talking about taking up an activity together. It’s important to share each others iinterests and support them. Finally, working on you! I find that is an ongoing goal. You’ve identified the things you want to do and take them one by one. There’s so much to do in one day! I put together blog goals. HAHAHA So I’m working on that right now. Just been very busy with things.

These resolutions are inspiring! Being more present is one of my goals for this year, too 🙂

Great resolutions. I am also trying to be better at making my time more efficient. My hubs and I watch too much tv too. However, I will have to say that True Detective is AMAZING!

Agreed – shows like “True Detective” make TV watching more justified! I also want to make my time more efficient. Thanks for sharing your resolution!
