There are some things I simply can not imagine together…
…my mother at a hip-hop concert (though I went with my father to a Korean pop concert once, it was pretty funny!)…
…baked pastries (roast pork buns excluded) at an Asian restaurant..
…and now a classic fast food restaurant chain creating a capsule collection for an edgy French fashion retailer.
But a new collaboration – McDonald’s for Colette – has just launched at Colette thoroughly perplexing me. It would be one thing for McDonald’s to partner with a mass market retailer like H&M; fast food and fashion may go well together. But this collection for Colette is interesting and unexpected.
McDonald’s iconic images from it’s fries in a large box to it’s multi-layered Big Mac are actually recreated in a fun and chic way. The pixelated hexagon design pays a subtle homage to these familiar foods but also makes the designs more neutral and ultimately wearable. I’m definitely intrigued by the shirts, phone cases, and notebooks (prices ranging from 10-35 Euros).

A strange collaboration indeed! I can’t say I would want any of these pieces for myself, and it’s not like McDonalds needs to get it’s name out there. Perhaps the choice of brand was to make McDonalds seem more refined to a higher class?

Lydia, exactly – who DOESN’T know McDonald’s around the world right? But it’s an interesting spin on seeing their classic products in a different light and creating an upmarket product.
