I’m fascinated by royalty.
I ooh and ahh over Kate Middleton’s outfits and svelte post-baby appearance along with everyone else (oh to have that fresh face and gorgeous hair immediately after giving birth!) I still adore looking over Grace Kelly’s wedding photos when she went from being an actress to a princess. I’m also simply fascinated by the concept of royalty. It seems like a quaint concept in a modern age where democracies and egalitarianism (hopefully) dominate our societies. Can someone be more special and in a higher class simply because of their family? Well, yes…and therein remains the royal families in their current roles.
I was looking over these ethereal and gorgeous photos of Emilia Clarke aka Khaleesi/Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones” and started thinking about the concept of royalty. Then I came across Gianni Versace’s quote above about becoming royalty through your actions. I thought that this was a really great perspective on royalty. One can become a higher class and a revered figure by doing great deeds. I instantly think of the late Princess Diana and how she traveled the world on humanitarian missions. She was a princess, but more importantly, she acted like a princess. She helped those with medical conditions ranging from leprosy to HIV/AIDS; she even brought her sons to visit clinics/shelters so they could see beyond the perceptions of the diseases and see the patients themselves. It reminds me that there is still so much that I can do to help others. I have worked with a program that provides counseling and academic assistance to at-risk youths and will be working with them to distribute clothing and toys soon. I hope to show my daughter that we can all do a little something to enrich someone else’s life. Then I can aspire to become royalty in her eyes some day too.

I love these pictures!! I’m not a fan of the royal family or any of that really. I believe in this quote fully, it is what you do, not what family you were born into. Our deeds and heart should make us royal by giving to others and loving. I rather that be royal. Amazing gowns in these pictures :)) Happy week doll xx

I’m somewhat fascinated by the British Monarchy as well but I’m really glad to live in a country that doesn’t have one. The point of that quote is so true!

I love Emilia Clarke, but I don’t feel like these photos look like her. It reminds me of how weird Kerry Washington’s face looked on the cover of InStyle recently.

I’ve always been smitten with Royalty! There’s something fascinating about it all. My love for it started with Diana. I loved everything about her. These gowns are absolutely gorgeous and I barely recognized her with the dark hair! You’re THE BEST role model for your daughter. She will definitely think a lot of you 🙂

I’m not as fascinated with modern day royals as I am those of the past. Though Princess Di is an exception. I think the whole world loved her and with good reason. She did something with her position. She didn’t just waffle through life, enjoying the “luxurious” of being a royal. She went out of her way to be someone more, to give a new definition and purpose for those in higher classes. She also installed that within her children too. I hope we’ll see more genuine actions like hers amongst the royals of today. Not just attending events to save face but actually going onto the front lines and making real, tangible differences.

Sonia – I completely agree! Di really used her position to create influence and bring awareness to medical issues and survivors that were previously overlooked. I also hope that today’s royals take more genuine actions to create a positive change too!
