Are you a virtuous person?

I saw this editorial of Caroline Trentini in Vogue Japan (Nippon) and was really fascinated by the old-fashioned, traditional look; she looks like she is coming off the canvas from an elegant household in Western Europe in the Renaissance era.  She is fully outfitted in dress and accessories from a bygone era – one in which women were reserved, proper, courteous, and had a certain role to fulfill in society.  They were expected to be virtuous or have high standards which they would impart in their households and families.

It got me thinking about virtue in present day.  Nowadays, we can’t necessarily count on celebrities to dispense virtues (although they are unfortunately held in higher regard than they should be).  But we can still have high standards and hold ourselves accountable to them.  No one enters the world knowing how to act with integrity and decency, but we can still impart our own sense of values onto the next generation.  This is especially important as I start thinking about the kind of person I hope my daughter becomes.  I would love for her to hold herself to high standards of honesty and decency.  That means I also have to look at myself and seek to act with good virtues as well.  I thought Da Vinci’s quote was interesting and would love to hold true to my virtues and hopefully make myself and my daughter into people who would be considered honorable.  Sowing virtue then would certainly at least lend itself to a sense of honor and a sense of contentment with the person I am/the person I want to become.

Ahh, it is interesting to ponder these philosophical questions when one becomes a parent!

Have a lovely week!

i am not a parent but I think about such things constantly. I think with time we become more aware (if we are tying!)

Love these shots. The first jacket looks like something I would find in antique Indian store. I love it 🙂

Yes that first jacket is insanely gorgeous right? You’re right as well. I start thinking about more of these “what kind of person do I want to be?” questions as I get older!

Stunning images and styling. My favourite is the cream colour cloak. What parents teach their children certain reflects who they will be in some way when they are older. Morals, integrity, and honour are all great things to impart in the next generation.

I would like to think that I live by a certain set of virtues and quite honestly I wish more people would. I’m sure you’re setting a great example fir your little lady 🙂
