3 places to visit in San Francisco

July 14, 2016

I’ve recently gone to San Francisco twice in the last 4 months (after not visiting for 10 years!) and it’s quickly become one of my new favorite cities.  I’m heading back again in a month and will be happy to visit/revisit a few sites.

It is such an easy (though sometimes dangerously steep) walking city which is probably one of the biggest reasons why I love it.  It can be a little cold for me (50 F in May – come on guys!) but I also like the brisk weather.  We have stayed around Union Square the last few times that we have visited and so I’ve become a little more familiar with some of the sites in the area.  Of course I almost managed to find the centrally located Target as well (the little one loves it as much as I do!)  But these 3 places to visit in San Francisco are my favorite areas so far.

3 places to visit in San Francisco

The Ferry Building

The Ferry Building is one of San Francisco’s most historic sites reigning over the east side since 1898. The imposing and graceful clock tower immediately greets you on all sides. I loved observing the architecture in the area and particularly on Market Street leading up to the Ferry Building.  While fewer ferries transport passengers from its piers, it does boast a wonderful Farmer’s Market Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The food range is amazing from macarons to pastrami sandwiches to fresh apricots.

It is also one of the city’s most accessible viewpoints of the bay with a gorgeous view of the Bay Bridge.  See more pictures in this post and sneak a peek at some gorgeous produce.

Union Square

Union Square is a nice central spot for people watching and shopping.  Famed outlets like Louis Vuitton line Union Square while massive department stores from a beautiful Macy’s to the newest Apple store with an all glass storefront line the perimeter. Look, this guy on the second floor is just enjoying the breeze!

Union Square park was redesigned by MD Fotheringham, Landscape Architects in partnership with April Philips Design Works.  This redesigned improved visibility into the Square, making it more inviting and accessible. I enjoy both the new public art by R.M. Fischer (aww the hearts!) and the palm trees dotted throughout. But my favorite part are the buildings around Union Square with their gorgeous architecture.

This was further away from Union Square, but another example of stunning architecture and how the street cars connected to buildings.

Marina Green Park

There are a few parks in the North of San Francisco with a wonderful view of the water, Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz. Marina Green Park is a quieter strip between the Presidio and Fort Mason.
