I love perusing great art.  I appreciate a wide variety of art from Renoir’s colorful and vibrant scenes in a backyard to Annie Leibovitz’s striking black and white portraits.  Then I saw Picasso’s famous quote and thought about how our art evolves and changes as we change.  Art certainly reflects the artist and her views.  Picasso’s own art changed as he witnessed such monumental events around him.  When I saw this Tim Walker for  Vogue UK December 2016 editorial “Floating artists”, I was fascinated by these surreal scenes and the concept of how an artists maintains inspiration.

There are certainly artists that seem to have boundless inspiration and produce work after work.  In contrast, there are other artists and people like me that need a break to reset, regroup, and become inspired again.  But children seem to be inspired by everything.  After all, they are discovering the world and everything is new and interesting.  As a result, they color and create without abandon.  Perhaps, we become more cynical as we learn more.  Or our heads become full of everything else that they leave little room for inspiration.

It is definitely a good thing to see the world through the eyes of children and draw from the inspiration around us.  But it’s also wonderful to see work from photographers like Tim Walker that combines such imaginative, dreamlike feels with a sense of elegance.   He definitely retains a sense of childlike wonder and imagination. Who says you can’t continue to be imaginative and inspired as you get older?

Have a lovely week!

Shireen, you described it pretty well. I think Tim Walker’s style is beautiful, weird, and sometimes a little creepy too. He definitely has such a cool sense of imagination!

Tim Walker always knocks it out the park! I love the garden scene. It is breathtaking. I’ve always thought it was important to dream. Children do so. That brings on ideas and creativity. Sometimes that is loss in adulthood. Loved this.
