We’ve all joked about it – we’re getting old!  We slow down a little, go out a little less, and have less energy or willingness to do the same activities we did when we were a little younger.  As a result, we blame our inactivity/forgetfulness/insecurity on our old age. We keep comparing ourselves to our younger selves and lamenting what we can’t do anymore.  I instantly thought about the concept of our older years when I saw the 2017 Pirelli calendar.  It is interesting that age and the 2017 Pirelli calendar – normally a highlight of traditional beauty – are now joined together.

The actresses in the calendar are mostly older (except for Lupita of course).  They are also captured in very stark settings with minimal, if any makeup. The shots are also refreshing and simple. I never wanted to get too old.  I saw my grandfather – formally so active – become afraid, passive, and  shell of his former self.  As a result, I didn’t look forward to becoming older.  But I would love to maximize my time with my loved ones.  I’d love to cross more items off my bucket list.  There is certainly much I can do in my old age.  So I will keep going and keep making those happy memories year to year.

Have a lovely week!

I love this Pirelli calendar! The shots are simple but beautiful and classic. I don’t know why so many calendars out there that featured naked women or women that have their hands place strategically to p[rotect their modesty? Calendar pictures can be taken beautiful and elegantly like these!

And I know what you mean by growing too old…my grandfather passed away due to dementia and I saw how he deteriorate over the years. It was painful not only for him but for all of us too. 🙁

I’d love to see this as the norm. they should have included alicia keys in there since she no longer wears makeup, is older, and looks amazing.

I was so excited when I heard that Peter Lindbergh, would be lensing the calendar. His trademark style really celebrates the natural beauty of these ladies which is quite powerful in a way.. Lea Seydoux, and Alicia Vikander are both younger as well I believe.

These pictures are so beautiful! I love seeing people in their natural state. We as a society should embrace that more. I so agree with you! Fulfill your list of things you want to do! Do them!

    HI!

thanks for visiting my blog! It was a pleasant surprise and I am happy to have found your lovely blog.

These pictures are very inspiring. I’ve been thinking about the subject a lot lately. I wanna think about the things I “can” do because I am older rather than those I can’t.

I like your attitude Lena! I also want to think about things I can do BECAUSE I’m older. There’s still a lot of fun to be had 😉
