Meaningful Valentine’s Day Gift ideas

February 8, 2018

Do you feel pressure to do something for Valentine’s Day? I feel a mild need to participate in Valentine’s Day, but don’t necessarily do it on the 14th (no price gouging for me!) Most of my most treasured gifts center around genuine efforts and experiences.  Of course I love my vintage Chanel purses (that would indeed be a fab gift!), but I love the idea of celebrating an occasion with something that can be shared by both people.  My husband cooks for me for certain holidays or celebrations because he knows that I love his efforts in making the meal. I’ve been thinking about some of my other favorite gifts and wanted to share them with you as well.

Home Cooked Meal

We aren’t all meant to be chefs.  But I think there’s nothing like a home cooked meal, especially when you can’t get a reservation!  It can be easy as setting up a charcuterie platter and roasting some vegetables in the oven.  However, you can dress it up with luxurious touches like truffle oil or add some unusual cheese and tropical fruits.  You can also make a great, easy and even healthy dessert as well like chocolate date truffles. Go ahead and get inspired by your favorite chef!

Book a trip

I’m always happy to travel.  My little one has been to San Francisco 4 times already! I think it’s always a good idea to explore a new place and culture together.  You get to try new foods and get to unwind together. If you can’t get out of town, play tourist in your town.  See a play, visit the museum, or catch some live music.

Take a class together

My husband and I have taken some pretty fun classes together.  We were in a few salsa classes over the years. I’m still not that great, unfortunately and he loves it more than me! But it was still nice to carve out the time to do something new together.  We even tried a krav maga class as well which is so fun and crazy since you’re literally sparring with your partner!  We also hope to make pottery pieces together to create anniversary gifts for each other.  What classes would you take?

Print out special pictures

My husband and I can have very different tastes.  He may dress casually and likes beach vacations. But I may like to dress up a little and take part in vacations where we really get to explore a local culture.  But some of our favorite gifts to each other have centered around our favorite pictures.  I framed an adorable picture of him with our little lady which he proudly displays on his desk.  He printed a large picture my daughter and I in the Maldives which glances down on us in our dining room.  Pictures are always intimate and special.

Me Time

No joke – one of my friends went on a staycation by herself for Mother’s Day.  While that may be a little awkward for Valentine’s Day, me time is always appreciated.  Gift your loved one time for themselves.  Walk the dog, babysit the kids, or help her tackle a home project so she can have a little free time.  I have so little me time so I know this is something pretty cool!

Oh these are some lovely and different gift ideas! 🙂 We don’t do Valentine’s day gifts. When we were dating now hubby once got me a huge bundle of roses, I told him he didn’t need to try top that again as it was so special, haha! 🙂 We might order takeout but that’s as ‘special’ as the day will be, it’s not such a big thing here in Australia.

Hope you’re having a good week so far. I’m busy, but not as much as last week, so that’s nice! 🙂

I never feel any pressure from Valentine’s Dya since my husband and I don’t celebrate it. I do like your idea of gifts based on genuine efforts and experiences and this is actually something we try to do on a regular basis rather than limiting it to just a few times a year.

This was absolutely beautiful! I think experiences are much more pleasing, which you presented here. I love the things you two do together. I hope to meet someone someday that wants the same things.
