Karaoke – would you belt it out to a crowd (like at a wedding!) or only to a select few?

November 7, 2009

My cousin got married a few weeks 2 weekends ago. The wedding was a large Asian affair (380 at the “engagement party” and I think 500 at the “reception” a week later).  Wow, right?  But the really wow part is that my cousin and her husband SANG to each other in front of all their guests.  No, they are not afraid of the cheese and all about entertainment in Taiwan.

I have to admit that I thought about singing this to Mr. Chic ‘n Cheap who I will now call Mr. Gadget (I’ve gotten him almost all of his gadgets and he loves them almost as much as he loves me).  This song was on eternal repeat in the car.  You rock Fiona Apple and I dare to say I like her version better than the original Beatle’s version.

The Mr. and I are going to a friend’s birthday party soon followed by karoke.  While I’m usually ok singing amongst friends, I’d be pretty shy belting it out in front of strangers.  I guess that’s why I chickened out during the NYC wedding.  I do have another opportunity of course in a few months.  Hmm, should I do it?

Go for it! Have a drink or two and dive right in 😉

My fiance wants karoke at the wedding, too. Our compromise? We can set it up toward the end of the party when everyone is tipsy and brave.

Go for it! If I have the voice, I’d be singing in the shower, in the car, in front of hundreds and even thousands! But sadly, I don’t and will need to keep the singing to myself and do the world a favor that way.

Saw your comment on Dream Sequins that you’ll go to the Philippines? I’m originally from the Phils. Have fun!

Prepare yourself by doing some SingStar or Rockband, and then grab a few drinks for liquid courage. As long as you don’t take yourself too seriously, it’ll be a great time.

Haha, the consensus seems to be drinks and then singing – point taken!

I LOVE fiona’s version and was in love with it when I saw it at the end of Pleasantville.
I’m a karaoke fan but I’m like you–I can’t do it in front of a bunch of people. Drinks help! Go for it! And in my case, a song with no high notes is a pre-req. =)

My husband wrote a song and sang it to me in front of our wedding guests (about 250 of them). It was so sweet! He also has a nice voice, so everyone loved it. I, on the other hand, would probably never sing in front of a big crowd. I’m way too self-conscious!

I say, have a drink and go for it! 🙂

you should do it!! and maybe take a shot for courage 😉

Scariness of singing in front of so many people who love you. I have no problem singing in front of people who don’t know me though. I think we may have to get our karaoke on at the wedding though! When the the booze has adequately flowed!
