Wonder Woman, Laura Ashley, and my Mom (Happy Birthday!)

March 1, 2010

Yes, that’s right Wonder Woman and Laura Ashley epitomize my mom. She has that special combination of super speed, strength, and stamina that set her apart.

But instead of favoring white-starred hot pants, she’s decked out in pastels and conservative English country  floral prints (their popular designs when they were in the States and their still popular linens which I’ve already given her).

My mom has always been the superstar of her family (first one to study in the US) and ours (successful and beloved in her field – I still got time to catch upthough!)  She has worked 12 – 14 hours every day for at least two decades and is a veritable dynamo as my brother would say.  I would love to have her drive, people person abilities, and bargaining skills some day.  She’s a tough love mama and a strong, assertive woman so I definitely learned that from her.  But she’s still a little softie sometimes and always pushes me to be a better person so I thank her for that.  That’s right – Wonder Woman and Laura Ashley.
I remember once writing a poem about her in primary school and one line was ‘Thanks for cleaning up our messes while wearing nice dresses”
I hope I can do everything for my family as well while being a styling mom.
I’m not home until tomorrow, but I am planning on cooking a nice meal or two this week at my parent’s place.  We don’t really do gift exchanges in our house but I will transport over a Laura Ashley item or two (she was really excited when I lived in London and could easily get her this stuff).
She’ll probably like this cardigan.
