Fashion Highlight: Anna Karenina collection for Banana Republic

October 31, 2012

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to live in another time period.

Would I have been a flapper girl if I lived in the 1920s?

How many poodle skirts would I own if I lived in the 1950s?

How long would it take to get into a traditional evening gown in the late 1800s?

I’m happy to live in this day and age where I can wear pants or a short skirt if the mood strikes me. But it is still nice to dream a little of the other sartorial possibilities!

Jacqueline Durran, costume designer from the upcoming movie Anna Karenina (it will be fun to see Keira Knightley in this role on Nov. 16!), has designed a capsule collection for Banana Republic that is full of the moods and influence of the time period of this famous tale.  Luxury, romance, and a hint of extravagance are definitely part of this collection.  The apparel is wearable and lovely, but the strength in the collection comes from the decadent accessories.

See these items in stores today in select stores throughout the US.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces (can you tell I love the bracelets?):

Cap sleeve Lace sheath, $150

Scarlett clutch, $98

Sonia stole, $79.50

Lace Stretch bracelet, $49.50

Pearl deco bracelet, $49.50

Silver screen scatter ring, $39.50

Ice stone bracelet, $35

Deco black earrings, $45

Lace statement ring, $45

little luxury list

Love the second picture, that is stunning!! I would like to have lived in a lot of different times, but for women they were always hard times, so I think now is best for me 🙂 Hope you have a lovely day doll xx

Yes, I am so happy that this collection is finally available online! I lusted after the cap-sleeve dress for months before I found it in the store. The price is right, but unfortunately it was too long and overwhelmed my frame. I love that deco bracelet and may have to scoop that up for the holidays.

This is going to be such a fun collection to shop. I was just in there and almost bought a pale sweater with faux fur collar (not sure if it was part of this) but it was soooo pretty!

I would’ve loved to be part of the demure fashionable 1800’s…I am slightly jealous that we don’t get this brand and store here…I would have liked to nab a few jewellery picks

I am always wondering the same thing about who I would be in another era. I change my style all the time. I’m liking this collection, it’s simple and elegant for winter.

I cannot WAIT for the Anna Karenina to come out. Huge fan of the book. 🙂 This collection is so lovely and a perfect modern twist on the ol’ classic style. That black dress is gorgeous and those bracelets are stunning.

I wish I was around in the 50’s it really would have suited my style! Although the 20’s was indeed beautiful! I love the bracelets in that collection can see they would have been very versatile

It was an interesting choice to collaborate with this movie but I think it’s a very elegant collection. Mad Men was my favorite though 🙂
