Savvy vs. Splurge: Structured Crossbody bag inspiration by Rachel Zoe (Proenza Schouler PS11 vs. Steve Madden stud bag)

February 20, 2013

Do you like studded items in your wardrobe?

I’ve always been a girly girl with a preference for delicate fabrics, florals, and soft touches (no studs in sight!)  But styles evolve and after seeing pictures of style mavens like Rachel Zoe with this Proenza Schoulder PS11, I have now added a studded crossbody purse to my wish list. I’ve already mentioned my love for saddle and crossbody bags for its functionality, but I love the edgy glamour of a few well placed studs on a purse.

The Proenza Schouler PS11 (Rachel herself appears to be carrying a snakeskin version) is certainly modern, but I can see myself using it for anything from a shopping excursion about town to filling it with necessities for a short weekend trip. I’ve had my heart set on a cool version in a pop shade so I’ve been saving up those Barney’s gift cards.  But it is nice to know that if I want one now, I can save a whole lot by getting the Steve Madden version below.

So would you be savvy or splurge on a studded crossbody bag?

I actually prefer the Steve Madden version – it’s a little more subdued as far as the studding goes. And, of course, that price…! 😀

They are both really pretty:) Have a great day, sweetie.

Ooooh good find! And how excited are you that her show is starting up again. I put a reminder in my iPhone. I’m such a dork.

The Steve Madden version is actually pretty great, and the price can’t be beat! I’ve never really purchased an expensive purse, but I have been eyeing those Alexander McQueen clutches for quite some time now and may have to take the plunge after bonus season 😉

Kim, I LOVE those McQueen skull clutches and you must share when you get one! I am actually loving this PS11 bag a little less but figure I will use it all the time if I get it (thus justifying the price!)

I’ve always liked this bag but I find it hard to justify spending so much money on a cross body that I wouldn’t use as much as a regular purse so the Steve Madden one would be a good alternative for me.

I think I need that Steve Madden bag! It’s totally fun!

I actually prefer the Steve Madden one, it’s more understated.

I agree with Rowena, the PS bag is quite pricey and I think the Steve Madden bag looks just as chic and polished. With that said, however, if this is your designer fashion dream…then go for it.

both bags look really pretty. i like the sleekness of the black one, though it’s definitely out of my price range!

Both are nice, but I do prefer the Steve Madden version on this one. Love it of course with the studs! xx/Madison

always the savvy choice, not sure i can spend that much on a purse! i love it though…

I like studded bags, but only one’s that don’t have a LOT of studs on them. These are really pretty. Go Steve Madden for creating an inexpensive version. As you mentioned, I couldn’t see myself wearing these a lot.
