What are some of the habits you had as a child? I saw this editorial of Millie Bobby Brown for W Magazine Volume #4 and thought of how quickly kids grow before our eyes.  I certainly measure time now with my kids’ ages.  But with each passing year, I also hope that I am giving them the right tools and helping them form good habits. This is because with each year, my influence wanes as they start forming more of their own opinions and judgments. I’m not quite a tiger mom, but I try to instill a love of learning in my little lady.  Luckily, she is becoming more patient and actually really likes doing activity books and “reading” (pretending to read, but getting there!) I also try to encourage her to discover why things are a certain way.  Thank goodness for educational programs as well that have taught her about everything from weather to ornithology.

But most importantly, I want to give her the tools for being caring and courteous.  I’m acutely aware of this little life we’re helping to mold.  So I’m asking her to use her judgment a bit more and use the Golden Rule.  I ask her how she would feel if someone tells her “I don’t want to be your friend!” (apparently the latest insult floating around the playground).  She was already sensitive and is starting to become more empathetic. Now she’s starting to realize the effects of her words and actions. I’m also constantly reminding her to be courteous to others so that they will be courteous to us as well. To be honest, our American mindset sometimes contrasts culturally with how others think.  But I can only guide how we act and can’t control others right? Hopefully, she’ll continue having good habits and carry them with her as she gets older.

Have a lovely week!

These are lovely photos! It’s so true too, we want to teach our kids to be kind above all. I hope I can raise two kind and considerate boys – the world can definitely do with more kindness in it!

Hope you are having a good week so far 🙂
