Anna Cleveland for Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands June 2019

“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not. “

Georgia O’Keeffe

Do you take time out to smell the roses? This editorial of Anna Cleveland for Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands June 2019 and the quote above reminded me to enjoy the beauty around me. Sometimes, it’s the smallest things – from pausing to appreciate fresh blooms to baking bread with a loved one – that really matter.

But Georgia O’Keefe isn’t just talking about taking time to appreciate flowers. She reminds us that we should really focus and concentrate on what is before us. Let the subject surround us and become our world for that moment. I do enjoy taking time out to appreciate beautiful things around me. I’m thankful to live in the smartphone age where I can quickly take a picture of something that has captured my attention.

However I can do better at doing this more often. There are many times when I simply go about my day on autopilot. I flit about from one place to the next. Sometimes I hardly realize what I am doing and do things without concentrating on them. That can certainly be why I can hardly remember where I put things sometimes because I’m busy thinking about something else! So I’ve vowed to not only take time to appreciate beautiful things, but also be mindful of more things and truly concentrate on them. Here is to focusing on the many flowers we may come across.

Have a lovely week!

How beautiful are all these editorials! This is a great reminder for me as well, Often times I’m going through the motions and I feel like I’m missing out on these small joys in life! Learning to live with intention is something I’m actively working on now.

I actually find that I can better appreciate moments and things when I’m actively engaged instead of trying to capture everything on my phone and that’s how I’m choosing to live these days.
