Worth it? Zac Posen Z Spoke Silk Jacket

February 27, 2010

Happy weekend lovelies!  I bookmark a lot of random stuff on the internet that I find interesting.  I usually try to keep in mind unique items but price is usually the factor that keeps me from immediately buying something.  So I thought I’d start throwing it out to you and see how you feel about it.  I’m always on the lookout for deals and paying less than retail, but I’m always trying to find products that are cool and worth the price (because hey a dozen of a cheap brand’s item could still be worth one drool worthy item from another brand).  Thus begins the “Worth it?’ series!

First up is a piece from Zac Posen’s collection for Saks Fifth Avenue (btw I’ll also highlight his Target collection very soon!).  This small collection is at a lower price point than his normal pieces (everything is below $600) and there are quite a few nicely constructed pieces.  Though $475 is not $600, it’s still quite a bit so is it worth it for this cute jacket?

It’s silk with a silk lining and I love the 3/4 tie sleeves.  It’d go with a ton of things in my closet and silk is a good lightweight fabric.  I’m still a little scared by the price though.

So do you think it’s worth it?

    indeed it’s really cute,but I don’t think it’s worth $475:(
I’m sure you can find something like this at Zara:)

It’s cute, but I wouldn’t pay that much for it!

I’m going to go against the grain here and say it’s worth it! I believe in spending a lot on investment pieces like this. I spent about this much on a pleated, black DKNY skirt four years ago that I still wear all the time. I will probably have it for the rest of my life. If this jacket goes with a ton of your clothes, and you’ll keep wearing it for years, it’s definitely worth it!

I’m gonna go with yes. Key pieces are worth the money. Like PartyPlannerGal said, if it goes with a lot of your clothes, it’s a keeper.

Love it; but I’d never be able to pay that much for a jacket. Loving the “Worth It?” concept – such a fun new series; can’t wait to see what’s next!

By the way, I wish that were me getting out of that cab – sometime soon, I hope! 🙂

Great idea on the new post!!

I’m going to say it’s a cute jacket, but not worth the almost $500. You can have something either made for much less, OR, find a less expensive version likely in the coming months.

I came across your site today and am loving it! Keep up the great work!

    I think it’s definitely worth it! I just can’t afford it. 🙂

Looking forward to your Target/Zac Posen spotlight post, and I’m super excited about the Jean Paul Gaultier Target collection on the 7th!

hmmm… i guess it depends on your income/outcome 🙂 like, for me who has basically $0 income and have been outcoming loans to law school, it’d be insane for me to buy this. However, when I’m a bigwig lawyer making millions (haha – which I clearly will be), this would be perfect for me!

Hmm how is this a lower price point?? I’m going to say it’s not worth it. It’s very lovely, but not $500 lovely!

If you love it and wear it a lot, it’s worth it. If you love it, don’t wear it much, but keep it forever to wear occasionally, then it’s worth it.

It’s not about the any particular price. …it’s about your personal feelings and what you can afford. It’s not a question that someone can really answer for you, IMHO.

I’ve had pieces that seemed expensive…when I bought them 15 years ago. After that amount of time, it seems like the smartest investment in the world.
