Trend/{Fashion} Highlight: Snake Print

November 9, 2011
Are you an animal print lover? Β To tell you the truth, I never really loved animal prints (leopard, zebra, etc.) Β . The prints seemed too loud for my more conservative fashion tastes. Β But as time goes on, I find myself more and more attracted to animal prints – they pack a really fun edge to a printed dress or shoe. Β The print for this season is the snake print (my mother’s most feared animal – can’t wear it around her!) Β I’ve been on the fence about snake print, particularly in clothing, because I wasn’t sure if I would love the scaly look.Fortunately, designers must have consumers like me in mind because there are a variety of snake prints in more subtle hues and patterns. If I can get my hands in a snake print in a classic black, white or gray, with a smaller print, it could be versatile enough for work to weekend wear.

What do you think of snake prints?

Here are a few favorite picks:
1.Β MICHAEL Michael Kors sequined snake print jersey tank, Net-a-Porter, $80
2.Β ACNE shimmer snake print top, My Theresa, $135
3.Β Helmut Lang abstract snake print dress, The Outnet, $153
4.Β Marc by Marc Jacobs Red Snake print jersey dress, My-wardrobe.com, $425
5.Β Pour La Victoire Haya snake print pump, mauve, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, $15
6.Β Tory Burch Reva Ballet flat Almond Snake print flats, Jildor, $235

little luxury list

    great selection. love number six.

I love all animal prints, but I’m with you about them generally being a bit loud for clothes. I’ve always managed to incorporate them in shoes and accessories. I think snake lends itself to a more conservative look because it’s a smaller, more delicate pattern. That Marc Jacobs dress is fantastic, and that’s a great price for Pour la Victoire shoes!

I could definitely be into this trend.

i don’t think i pull the animal print off very well, but i do like the look of it.

Adore snake print – it’s a nice change up from leopard. I have a small, snake print dress from Zara that I’ve gotten major mileage out of.

I usually go more for subtle leopard or zebra prints, but these are great finds! Maybe I should give snakeskin a try on a very feminine piece.

I have to agree with you on this. The subtle colored ones and gorgeous textures have made the animal prints more wearable and sophisticated. πŸ™‚

I’ve never worn anything snake print before, but it looks nice. However, I feel like it doesn’t compliment me well or I don’t know how to rock it. I also wish pieces like this were available in my area to try on

i like it on a shoe! haven’t tried it on another piece of clothing because i think it’s too bold for me.

  • MizzJ November 10, 2011 at 04:25

Snake print is great! It’s subtler than leopard but still makes a statement. I think in darker tones it can look very sophisticated.

I didn’t really like reptile prints. But No.5 shoes looks kind of nice. I might wear them.

For some reason snake print on clothes freaks me out. I like it on shoes and bags, though! I’ve always been a big fan of animal prints (especially leopard), so I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten fully on board with the reptile print trend.
