Happy Fun, Free Friday lovelies!

Photorealistic paintings of NYC

I’m always drawn to pictures and photographs of my native city.  New York City has an unmistakable energy that can be difficult to capture, but is pretty darn magical when it is done correctly. I also like seeing familiar sites from the polished lines of the subway cars to the gleaming iconic skyscrapers (the Chrysler Building or the Flatiron Building are both favorites). Richard Estes creates interesting photorealistic paintings of NYC scenes.  He first captures a moment with a camera and then visualizes the scene again in paint.  The scene is still vibrant and dynamic, but has an interesting edge to it.

Here are a few favorites:

Otherwise this weekend I am…

…enjoying my last few moments in NYC.  I’ve had many, many plans but actually been ok with not accomplishing all of them (this is certainly a first for me!) We were so used to fitting in intense visits with loads of appointments daily and flying between multiple cities, but have decided to take it easy now.  The poor little one hasn’t been sleeping well and her skin has been going nuts so we vowed to just enjoy time with family and get her well rested (which also unfortunately meant canceling a trip upstate).  I’ve seen a few good friends and family, but more importantly have let the little one recover from our jetting and have fun with her cousins. It has been such a joy seeing a trio of toddlers bounce, yell, and frolic during these comfortably cool days.  It’s the little things and moments that make trips worthwhile.
