What is clothing to you?
I really liked Michael Kors’ quote above as it relates to clothes – clothing can be satisfying, entertaining, and inspiring among so many other things.  Our clothing expresses a small part of us and our moods.  Are we playful or demure?  Are we light or understated?  The cut and the color can say so much about how we are feeling and how we want to present ourselves.
I was looking through the red (and pink!) carpet pictures of the CFDA Awards 2016 to find my favorite best dressed celebrities (the biggest surprise was Vera Wang who by the way is 66 years old!) I was pleasantly surprised to find that the clothing was interesting, but more understated.  The silhouettes were leaner with no ballgowns in sight.  The looks were a little bit cleaner and more fun and it wasn’t about the most elaborate outfits, but outfits that made these celebrities feel great.  Beyonce’s speech about clothing, the people who made the most memorable pieces of clothing in her life (her mother and her uncle), and fashion’s role in expression and empowerment was certainly inspiring as well.
She said “We have an opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine cover and see her own reflection. Soul has no color. no shape, no form. Just like all your work it goes so far beyond what the eyes can see. You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, to show people how to embrace their complications and flaws and see the true beauty that’s inside all of us.”  So with that continue to dress in a why that makes you feel beautiful (as I write this wearing a comfortable older Tory Burch shirt dress).
Have a lovely week!
p.s. My phone has major problems and I switched computers so sorry for being MIA!

That is a very nice speech. And seeing both Beyonce and Rachel Roy here…I just can’t help but think about “Becky with the good hair” — My favorite, though, is Vera Wang in Vera Wang. She is killing it.

Yes I kept thinking of that line too Cheryl! Seriously though, Vera Wang wasn’t on the best dressed list, but definitely made mine. She TOTALLY killed it!

I only realized after the fact that the CFDAs happened earlier this week so thanks for this recap. I didn’t realize that Vera Wang and my mom were the same age. My mom totally looks better ;p
