It’s crazy to think we’ve been living in Singapore for 8 years now! But it’s funny because Singapore has changed quite a bit even in the time that we’ve been here. The skyline was undeniably altered with the launch of Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. There have always been beautiful historic buildings alongside modern skyscrapers. Singapore has always been a great hub for Southeast Asia, but “Crazy Rich Asians” also really put it on the map. Gardens by the Bay
I’ve taken hundreds of pictures at Gardens by the Bay and visited the site quite a few times. The wedding of the year in “Crazy Rich Asians” took place right under the super trees here. These 18 organic and steel trees (up to 50 meters!) are partially covered with over 162,000 plants from 200 different species! Some trees are also equipped with photovoltaic cells to provide solar energy to light up the tree at night (as you can see in the movie!) Go further in the gardens and see the gorgeous children’s garden waterpark that I posted on Instagram or visit the beautifully curated Flower Dome or Cloud Dome.

Marina Bay Sands
The world’s largest and longest rooftop pool stretches 150 meters along this hotel. The signature shape is very much like a ship sailing in the sky above Singapore. Rachel and Nic had a great party at this pool at the end of the movie. Marina Bay Sands isn’t known just for the pool though. It’s the site of many celebrity restaurants. My favorites include Cut by Wolfgang Puck (best bread selection EVER) to db Bistro (the short rib foie gras burger is pretty amazing!) RIP to Pizzeria Mozza which had some of the best pizzas in town. Of course it’s not all about eating. You can gamble, shop at luxury stores, and visit the interactive Digital Light Canvas exhibit. It’s also across the street from Gardens by the Bay.
Ann Siang Hill (Shophouses)
Mama Eleanor Young strode down this street like a boss towards the end of the movie. When I first moved to Singapore years ago, I would visit this popular spot (it’s only a few blocks long!) for cozy dinners and bar hopping. During busy weekends, the street will only allow pedestrians so people spill out onto the streets going from one place to another. It’s full of historic Singapore shophouses with beautiful architecture details here and there.
Raffles Hotel
The iconic Raffles Hotel was built in 1887 and flows with charm from a bygone era. Nick and Rachel stay in this hotel for their visit to Singapore. It’s effortlessly luxurious and will be reopening next year with an even bigger focus on fine dining with 10 dining areas (psst Alain Ducasse is involved!) It’s Long bar is also the birthplace of the famous Singapore Sling and fabulously covered in peanut shells. While I don’t love the drink, I love the vibes of the bar.
Chijmes
The former Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus Middle Education School is actually a sprawling complex with various restaurants and bars. The 19th century Chijmes chapel is actually an event space now and hosted the picturesque wedding. Since it’s centrally located and picturesque, it certainly makes it an ideal space for celebrations. Come to see the architecture and eat great dim sum or affordable Japanese barbecue.

I had read that Crazy Rich aisans was filmed in Malaysia as well as singapore but they definitely made the most of some of the mosy iconic spots in Singapore. It must be really cool for you to have seen all the changes in the 8 years you’ve lived there.
