Iconic dresses for In Style September 2019

“Like charity, I believe glamour should begin at home.”

Loretta Young

How are you glamorous? I saw this editorial of Iconic dresses for In Style September 2019 and started thinking about glamour. I definitely remember Elizabeth Hurley’s standout safety pin Versace dress and Cate Blanchett’s delicate Armani Prive gown with the loveliest embellished flowers; these are certainly some of the most glamorous celebrity moments. In recent years, I was also fortunate enough to work at a retailer for gowns and be exposed to designers and celebrities that celebrated glamour. I’ve even attended fundraises and chic events and gotten to be glammed up myself.

But I like Loretta Young’s quote that glamour begins at home. I’m not donning ballgowns every day. Nor do I put on a full face of makeup (I’m just too lazy for that!) However I do like putting on a nice outfit or accessories. I usually live in skirts or dresses because they’re comfortable to me as well as elegant. I’ve also amassed a small collection of crystal hair accessories from golden bow clips to sparkling headbands. My discovery of Jennifer Behr handmade hair accessories means that I will wear pearl and crystal bobby pins to the playground. I don’t need an event to put on something a little glamorous. Apparently, this must start from childhood because my little lady loves wearing sequined or chiffon dresses to play as well.

I think there’s a delicate balance and I don’t want my little lady thinking that she has to dress up to go outside. But I want her to know she can dress any way she likes, including looks that would be considered dressier. That’s also why I can appreciate why people wear traditional and elegant hanbok to visit palaces in Korea – my little lady made me rent them too! Be glamorous in your own way and you might have fun too!

Have a lovely weekend!

I think I need balance. I don’t think glamour is all in what you wear either but, in how you carry yourself and in your home too. so you can be busy but still glam. i love all these dresses though, ha!! x

I think of glamour as being well put together and presentable in a classy way but I don’t think it necessarily entails piling on a bunch of makeup. or putting on a gown.
