Blooming Anew in US Vogue September 2019

“Love is like the wild rose-briar; Friendship like the holly-tree. The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms, but which will bloom most constantly?” Emily Bronte

Is there a happy balance to all the different relationships in your life? I saw this editorial titled Blooming Anew in US Vogue September 2019 and Emily Bronte’s quote so I started thinking about this. Remember when we were in the early days of a relationship and would spend all our time with our new partner? The honeymoon phase of a relationships sometimes left little time for our other relationships.

But significant others aren’t the only ones changing our relationships. I also feel like my relationships have also changed quite a bit since having kids too. Time is certainly more limited because my older one has so many activities that it can be hard to have my own time! We certainly started hanging out with more parents. After all, at least it was a little better if we could combine play dates with some coffee time. Yet I was also cognizant of not always talking about something child related around other friends. While my kids are a significant of my life, I don’t want it to be the only thing in my life.

But maybe it’s just age as well. I’ve gotten lazier and it’s a miracle if I go out during the week. I’m totally comfortable just chilling with my kids and husband. At the same time, I seem to become good friends with expats who repatriate within a few years. So I have to keep making new friends! Yet I do crave more connections. A transient friend group is just part of expat life. But all relationships take time and effort. So I’m reminded to reconnect with and maintain a few more relationships. It’s not easy balancing all of the relationships in our lives. But we can certainly keep trying!

Have a lovely week!

it’s a shame the editorial isn’t loading properly on my computer as it looks beautiful from the blurry pics I can see! 🙂

I find it easier spending time with my parenting friends too! I’m trying to make more of an effort to get out there and make time for friends but I don’t like leaving my boys for too long, haha!

Hope that you had a great weekend. We had a picnic today, taking advantage of the public holiday and great weather 🙂

I’ve become very aware and protective of my time in recent years. I’m at the point where I don’t want to waste it on things like social media that I don’t care about and I would rather focus on self care and spending time with people who I genuinely enjoy.
